Give a Gift Card for those who want to know how to give the most memorable gift to a friend, family, loved one, or even someone you’re not so fond of. 🙂 Coming October 1, 2011 – “Our WOD” for those who don’t want to “get their goats”. You will be able to find out what our WOD is going to be in advance of coming to class should you want to. “What is a Goat,” you say? Read on…. Get that Goat and don’t Cherry Pick My goat?!?! Goat is a term in CrossFit we use for a particular movement or lift that you suck at. Ya I said suck. That word sticks in your head better and motivates you not to suck. You’re like man…I don’t want to suck I want to be good. We all have a goat that we suck at or a few. For many of us it’s the Snatch, Hang Power Clean, Overhead Squat and double-under. I really advise you to come in early or stay after and work on your goat. You can only get better if you keep attacking that movement. It took me close to 2 years to get the double under. Ya I know you probably don’t want to hear it took me that long. However, I hit spells where I just gave up on it. Please follow this advice, do NOT give up on it like I did. All it does is set you back and keep you from doing certain wods and being better. Few months ago, I said enough is enough. I practiced 5-10mins before every WOD and then some when I could. Then POOF it just clicked and I can crank them out. Shannon got them faster than me, by faster I mean in like a month….jerk. I mean good job Shannon, way to go! Hah! This also transitions into the cherry-picking topic. Do not cherry pick certain wods because it has your goat in it. Here is some advice, just come into the box and don’t look at the wod on the website. I hear gossip that certain people don’t come in on certain days because of a particular movement. (Just to fill you in, we trainers hear everything!) If you cherry pick you are not following the CrossFit methodology. CrossFit is to get you ready for the unknown, the unexpected. So whatever obstacle life throws at you, you can take it on full force. This is why the wods always change, you rarely do the same wod twice. That’s where the constantly varied part comes into play. Work on your goat(s), get yourself out of the suck category. Get your goat down and it’s another tool in your toolbox to make you that much better of an athlete or CrossFitter. Many or most of these movements can build onto other movements. Making them better, faster, more explosive, and getting those POP(Points of Performance). Ex, getting the overhead squat down will help build and make your air squat stronger. (Butt back, chest up, weight in heels, knees out, hip crease below parallel, and full extension at the top. It will build on all those points.) To close this out, think of a few things. Don’t get discouraged; it will take patience through time and practice. Always make yourself better as a CrossFitter by working at your goat(what you suck at). Don’t add weight or too much weight to particular movements you need work on. If you have a weak overhead squat and your knees roll in on the squat down, guess what? You’re using just the bar. Don’t feel ashamed or you’re not going to get a good work out. That’s simply not true. FORM CONSISTENCY INTENSITY. Always in that order, and that order never gets compromised for your ego or feelings. Now get after it!  – Kyle H.]]>
